
This Micro-credential aims to teach basic English skills, covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It aligns with the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
This Micro-credential offers a weekly learning module that integrates the four key language
skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These competencies are seamlessly blended throughout the instructional period.
The course, titled "English for Elementary Learners" guides learners in grasping commonly
used phrases and vocabulary that are most relevant to their daily lives. It enables them to
engage in straightforward conversations on familiar subjects, read basic texts, and understand specific, predictable information in everyday materials. Additionally, it helps
learners compose brief, uncomplicated notes and messages for immediate needs. This learning pathway is designed for individuals who have successfully completed the
Beginner level or have been assessed as being able to succeed at this level and are eager
to advance their English proficiency further.
It caters to a diverse audience, including new
immigrants, refugees, and residents of English-speaking countries, aiming to achieve a
comprehensive and confident command of the English language at the Elementary level.
Upon completing this Micro-credential, learners will have the ability to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of simple sentences and commonly used phrases in English concerning immediate and relevant topics, such as basic personal and family details, shopping, local geography, and work
2. Engage in uncomplicated and regular activities in English that involve straightforward and clear information exchange about familiar and everyday subjects.
3. Read and understand basic texts in English, such as short descriptions, messages, and simple narratives, about familiar and everyday topics.
4. Produce simple written texts in English that communicate basic ideas and information related to personal experiences, daily life, and familiar topics.
The Micro-credential employs a multi-faceted approach to teaching, designed to cater to
various learning styles. The delivery methods include:
* Lectures: Classroom-based instruction led by experienced tutors.
* Audio-Visual Learning: Utilisation of multimedia resources like videos and podcasts to enhance understanding.
* Peer and Group Discussion: Interactive sessions that encourage learners to share ideas and perspectives, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
* Hand-outs and Reading Materials: Provision of supplementary written materials to reinforce key concepts and allow for self-paced study.
* Resources Accessibility: Resources available on Moodle will be accessible to learners for the entire duration of the course, allowing for flexible, on-demand learning.
Summative Assessments:
1. MID BLOCK EXAM: This comprehensive exam will assess learners in Grammar, English for Elementary Learners Micro-credential Document 4
Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Reading, Listening, and Speaking. It serves as a midcourse evaluation to measure the students' progress and adapt the teaching approach
if necessary.
2. END BLOCK EXAM: This is the final assessment that gauges the overall understanding and proficiency of the students in all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. It serves as a conclusive measure of learners' readiness to advance to the next level of English proficiency.
